January 1997Creation of SMA, a joint venture between Socata and Renault Sport F1
March 1998First flight of the SR305-230 engine, installed on a TB-20 airframe.
February 2001SMA obtains the JAR21 Design Organization Approval (DOA N°F.JA.08).
July 2002SMA obtains FAA certification for the SR 305-230.
25 March 2005Safran becomes 100% shareholder of SMA.
July 2005First transatlantic flight of a single engine aircraft equipped with an SMA diesel engine.
March 2006First non-stop flight of a single diesel engine aircraft over the Andes, from Buenos Aires to Santiago de Chile, by a single engine aircraft equipped with the SMA diesel engine.
December 2006SMA becomes a subsidiary of Snecma.
September 2008EASA Part 145 Repair Station certification.
July 2009The SR305-230E Enhanced engine is introduced during EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI.
September 2009First flight test of the SR305-230E engine up to 20,000 ft, on a TB-20 airframe.
November 2010SMA is certified by Bureau Veritas : Certification in accordance with AS9100:2003 and ISO9001:2008 standards for the following activities : « Design, Production, Marketing and Maintenance of piston aviation engines and STC for light aircrafts »
